Introduction
to Sports on Lanzarote & Fuerteventura
Surrounded
by sea and with a preferred climate and
constant temperature throughout the year,
the Canary Islands seem an obvious and
idyllic place all sports activities. Over
the past ten years activities
such as surfing,
water skiing, parasailing and diving have
become increasingly more popular and are
supported by a network of clubs and associations
that can recommend the best equipment,
locations, weather forecasts and tips and
hints. Every year professional sports men
and women come to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote
to train, and every summer the islands
host many international events, including
The World Wind-surfing Championships and
The International Triathlon sporting event,
Ironman.
Organised expeditions for
beginners abroad with qualified instructors
has also grown in popularity for those
wanting intensive courses in their chosen
sport.
There are many resorts
in the Canary Islands that lend themselves
to all kinds of sports with the southern
parts of the Islands more suited to water-skiing,
diving and paragliding and northern resorts
offering the perfect conditions for all
levels and forms of surfing. When undertaking
any sport for the first time it is advisable
to attend sessions with a qualified instructor.
