	Music Festival Canarias Klassiko August will be a treat for classical music fans as some of Europe’s finest performers arrive on the island. All the artists have a high international reputation 3rd August: Stockholm Royal Opera Woodwind Quintet: Five young musicians who have received rave reviews throughout Europe. They will be playing works by Haydn and Taffarel, amongst others. 4th August: Virginie Robilliard and Frederic Vaysse-Knitter: French violinist Virginie Robilliard has been acclaimed by the New York Times and has a great reputation for someone so young. She’ll be performing sonatas by Mozart, Brahms and Franck with the French/polish pianist Frederic Vaysse-Knitter, an astonishingly gifted musician who has won awards for his CDs. 10th August: Gionata Sgambaro and Benito Cabrera: Italian flautist Sgambaro has played around the world with some of the finest orchestras in the world. He’ll be accompanied by Benito Cabrera, master of the Canarian timple. Cabrera’s virtuosity and his attempts to blend classical with Canarian folk music mean he is probably the most famous Canarian musician. 11th August: Peter Szabo and Frederic Vaysse-Knitter: The pianist will be joined by Peter Szabo, the world-renowned Hungarian cellist as they perform sonatas by Chopin, Debussy and Argentinian tango maestro Astor Piazolla. 	Fiestas Fiesta de San Gines, Arrecife: Perhaps the island’s most important fiesta, the celebrations of San Gines take place on and around 25th August around the small pretty church of the same name in Arrecife and the picturesque Charco, the nearby lagoon. Most events take place outside the Casa de Miedo, a bar and society that’s at the heart of Arrecife folklore. A highlight of the fiesta is the race of the joleteros, tiny boats that are paddled by hand across the lagoon. Fiesta de San Bartolome, San Bartolome: The town celebrates the feast day of the saint it was named alter on and around the 24th August.
