Here you go Dodger : http://www.simyo.es/preguntas_frecuentes.html#comohacerse

Simyo piggybacks on the Orange network for coverage purposes.

Are you seriously suggesting tourists should be using this website to buy a dongle before they come on holiday?

Why not? It just shows that there are various options available to tourists. Or, of course, they could always just buy one when they get there.

So you are suggesting people who can´t speak a word of Spanish buy something online, answering questions being asked in Spanish without a clue whether anything will turn up or not or even if it will work where they are staying, if it does. Quite frankly, a ludicrous option, and irresponsible to be suggesting people should buy something this way.

As regards buying one when they get here, what if they can´t get one? Things do often run out in Lanzarote I´m led to believe. How do they get to the shop where they are being sold? In a taxi at 4/5 euros or more? Do people who have just arrived on holiday really want to have the hassle of going there, probably hanging round for ages waiting to be served and then sitting there whilst various forms are filled in? Again not even knowing if it´s going to work when they get back to their accommodation. I think not.

For an extra 10 euros or so, someone who speaks their language will call round on their arrival, set it up on their laptop and if it doesn´t work, take it away at no charge. In addition, they have unlimited usage throughout their holiday. Sounds like a far better idea to me.  ::)

Horses for courses coolgirl.

However, firstly, I don't assume, unlike you, that all holidaymakers do not comprehend Spanish. Obviously, even contemplating buying something from the internet in a language that you didn't understand would be foolish. But it is an option for some. Secondly, a fairly large percentage of holidaymakers hire cars - didn't you know that? So they wouldn't need your taxi scenario. Thirdly, things do run out, but there are various suppliers and shops. Your own prepaid dongle would be available for future use, and IMHO, work out cheaper in the long run.

Finally, I don't understand why you are being so defensive about this company - some personal interest perhaps? Of course that option may suit some, but surely it is better that visitors are aware of ALL the options so that they can make an informed choice?

No interest at all other than to support Lanzarote businesses providing a good service which attracts visitors to the island. What I don´t like are veiled accusations that people are being ripped off.

Also to correct statements from people who don´t live on the island that for a tourist to "get a pre paid dongle - easy with any provider on the Island" when it´s not, unless you live here, or speak fluent Spanish and trust unknown Spanish websites.

The inference being if you live on the island and don't speak Spanish, it's easy to get one, but if you're a tourist who doesn't speak Spanish you're stuffed - come on coolgirl, you're making it up as you go along now!!!

Just because it's a Spanish website doesn't mean it's unknown - all it needs is a bit of research. Would you buy blind from a UK website? Similarly for buying a dongle - and I'm sure that most people purchasing such an item would at least arm themselves with the relative phrases before they go in and not assume that English would be spoken, would you not? Or perhaps you would not.

Its a sad world if people come to the Island for a holiday and the main thing on their mind is where do I get a dongle for my laptop so I can connect to the internet, yes we all want to check our emails or print of a boarding pass, it cost 50c at an internet cafe, why spend 20/30/50€.
I agree if you are coming for business or got to keep in touch with work.
Facebook will still be their when you get home.

It's a matter of personal opinion and life style.  Some would have the exact opposite view:  While it's perfectly normal to want to keep in touch in your personal life, there is absolutely no reason they would want to keep in touch with work - this is a holiday after all!

Personally I think its a sad world, when folk come on holiday and look for the nearest bar they can p1ss away the holiday for 14 days and nights. But again that is choice.

Dongles local just buy one, it takes 5 - ten minutes max. Then you have it forever.

Or pre buy them on the internet, not a problem, bandlux is a good brand.

You must have being right Celty Girl, the internet rental laptop and dongal  business is for sale on the local LBS page for 18K
No running profit for the last 12 months.

Although I think it could work as a bolt on business to an existing IT Business, - Given the right marketing, exposure and business / tourist market audience. Along with a day rate.

So anyone arriving who rely on a connection for business, real time etc,  make sure you bring your pre purchased universal dongal, or buy one. Moviestar is a good deal.

Unless the company is still trading / solvent whilst up for sale? Then it can still be used. Answers on a postcard.............
